The North East is set to experience record breaking temperatures next week as the heatwave continues. According to the BBC Weather online forecast, Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham will all see mercury levels equal or exceed previous all time highs.
For Newcastle the record daily temperature was 32.5C on August 3, 1990 while on the same day in Sunderland it hit 33C. In Durham the record is 32.9C on July 25, 2019.
This morning, the BBC Weather online forecast predicted that after a very hot Monday, the temperature will rise still further on Tuesday when the thermometer would hit 33C in Newcastle and Sunderland and 34C in Durham.

Meanwhile in Northumberland, the temperature is predicted to be 31C just below the record of 32.6C experienced in Morpeth.
The forecast said: "Sunday and Monday will see very warm or hot conditions under lengthy sunny spells. It will be quite warm overnight as well, especially on Monday. Tuesday will see the peak of the hot weather with exceptionally hot conditions expected for most areas."
However, the alternative Met Office forecast puts temperature a bit lower for Newcastle and Sunderland. While it says they will climb over the weekend, becoming hot on Monday, and very hot Tuesday, it puts maximum temperatures in Newcastle and Morpeth at 26C on Tuesday and 24C for Sunderland.
But for Durham its forecast is similar to the BBC, at 33C. It said: "During the weekend, a developing southerly flow will allow very high temperatures currently building over the continent to start to spread northwards into the UK. Further north, eastern areas of Scotland could see temperatures in excess of 25°C in a few places, well above their average for the time of year."
The UK as a whole is bracing itself for soaring temperatures prompting the Met Office to issue an amber warning. The alert will be in place from Sunday until Tuesday with the hottest temperatures expected at the start of the week.
However, from Wednesday the temperature will drop to 22C in the North East with thundery showers predicted, while the rest of the week it will be around 20C.
