Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has warned Eddie Howe and Newcastle United there must be "longevity" to their summer signings ahead of an expected summer splurge. The Magpies know they must secure their Premier League status before focusing on the summer transfer window.
Needless to say, preparations will be well underway as Howe looks to bolster his squad. The Toon have been continually linked with a number of Europe's biggest names and speculation has shown no sign of slowing down.
However, the Magpies know they must bring in the right characters to buy into Howe's philosophy and a dressing room that's been transformed in recent months. Whelan has been full of praise for Newcastle's head coach and the players who signed in January.

Nonetheless, if Newcastle are serious with their lofty ambitions, they need to bring in players that would guarantee long term success. Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “If they can keep players fit, then it might be enough.
"The style of play has got better. The infrastructure of how he’s putting his philosophy out there for the team is proving dividends. They’ve reacted and the way they’ve been playing has been successful.
“Four players? He’s got a couple of good signings in already, Saint-Maximin up front, Wilson to come back. I still feel he needs another centre-half, even though he’s brought one in, Dan Burn. If they can get some out the door and bring some in, four or five, I think it probably would be enough for Eddie Howe to work with.
“They’ve got to be some good signings though. There’s got to be longevity in the signings. Players that give them that stability for three or four season with top-quality players.”
