Newcastle's Ryder Architecture acquires London design practice Haskoll

Newcastle architecture practice Ryder Architecture has acquired a London business as it continues its expansion.

Haskoll, which joined Ryder on February 1, is an established South Kensington based architecture and design practice Haskoll, with more than 45 years’ experience of delivering international projects.

The company has a track record in retail, urban design and placemaking in the UK, Europe and China.

Ryder managing partner Mark Thompson said the addition of the Haskoll team will strengthen Ryder’s service offering in those areas, as well as further diversify skills across its international locations.

Mr Thompson said: “We are delighted to welcome Haskoll to Ryder at a time of great excitement for the practice as we look towards the opportunities ahead in 2022. This is a strategic move and an important part of our ambitious long term plans to further strengthen the business, which has grown significantly over the past 18 months.

“Our new colleagues will be a welcome addition to our capability in London as we relocate to larger premises in the coming weeks.”

Derek Barker, managing director at Haskoll, said: “The Haskoll team are excited to be joining Ryder and are looking forward to combining our skills, reputation and geographic reach with the benefits that a larger practice can bring to support and diversity of our offer.

“With a changing world developing around us, it is a timely and reinvigorating development to be joining such an excellent company as Ryder.”

David Leech, director at Haskoll, added: “We are currently working on masterplanning, retail and repurposing projects across the UK and internationally. We are very much looking forward to integrating into Ryder, marrying our skills with the practice’s wealth of experience.”

The deal comes three months after Ryder acquired interior design firm Ward Robinson Design as part of a drive to offer new services to its clients.

The Cooper Studios based company said that acquisition of the fellow Newcastle company came after working together on projects for more than 20 years and would “add greater value and further diversity to the breadth of services offered to clients”.

Ryder Architecture was established in 1953 in Newcastle and has since branched out to have offices in London, Glasgow, Liverpool, Hong Kong, Vancouver and Amsterdam. Earlier this year it also added an office in Manchester, creating 18 new jobs.

The company is working on a number of key projects in the North East, including an office block for HMRC at Pilgrim’s Quarter in Newcastle, the new Sunderland Eye Infirmary and the operations base for the Dogger Bank at the Port of Tyne. It recently announced a rise in revenues and profits.
