An award-winning cocktail bar is out to add a rock 'n' roll vibe to the city when it launches in the spring with a promise of 'music for the people, food for the soul and good times forever'.
The Americana-style MOJO is due to open on the ground floor of The Gate in Newcastle this spring, it has been announced, where it soon will be hosting cocktail-making classes teaching customers how to be movers and shakers. And its top-trained bar tenders are set to be mixologists of the highest order, it says.
The MOJO brand already has successful nothern venues in cities such as Manchester and Leeds and it was first reported last summer that there were plans for it to take over the vacant former site in The Gate of TGI Friday’s in a £750,000 transformation. Now the big name seems set to bring a boost to the entertainment hub where it will join nearby bars including The Mayfair, The Hustle, The WonderBar, Wetherspoon and The Lofts night club.

Inge Johnson Mitchell, centre manager at The Gate, called MOJO an "exciting" addition to the leisure complex. With a spring opening date in mind, most likely in April, the bar is aiming to create what's described as "an electric going-out experience in the heart of Newcastle".
It will be serving home-made, classic American food alongside a playlist of alternative music. Martin Greenhow, MOJO managing director, said: "Newcastle is a fun, exciting and vibrant city so we couldn’t think of a better place to be opening our seventh site.
"We’re thrilled to bring the MOJO experience to The Gate - people are in for a rock 'n’ roll treat, full of great food and killer cocktails." The bar will offer a range of different customer spaces which also will be available to book. For more about what's available at The Gate see here.
