Newcastle's Central Park to host Eurovision party with big screen broadcast and fancy dress prizes

After a capacity crowd flocked to the same event last year, Newcastle's Central Park will once again play host to a huge Eurovision party in May.

The massive beer garden in Times Square in the city centre, was THE place to be last summer, whether it be for after work drinks, to celebrate a birthday or enjoy live Euro 2020 matches as England made it all the way to the final.

And last May, Central Park became a mecca for all things Eurovision, when fans dressed to impress to match the country their table had been designated, while others dressed as icons from Eurovision past including iconic 2014 winner Conchita Wurst. Scarlett Moffatt was among the revellers in the very enthusiastic crowd, who were all left on tenterhooks by a nail-biting result, which eventually saw Italy triumph thanks to rock act Måneskin.

Sadly, there was no celebrating at all to be had for the UK, after our entry Embers by James Newman, finished rock bottom of the leaderboard after scoring zero with juries and the voting public. Despite that dismal outcome, there is much more optimism this year, with both UK Eurovision fans and bookies really rating Sam Ryder's chances with his song Spaceman.

And you'll be able to wave your flags high when Central Park, which launches bigger and better in time for Easter, becomes a Eurovision fan zone for one night only, for the grand final of this year's contest on Saturday, May 14. And, while there can only be one Eurovision winner, the Central Park organisers have their own ideas in mind.

From one contest to another, attendees will have the opportunity to be crowned Eurovision royalty, as a King and Queen must be chosen before the night ends. With prizes to be won, fancy dress is highly encouraged!

Speaking ahead of the Eurovision Finale Party, Central Park organiser Gabriel Day said: “I am looking forward to this event, as it was one of the highlights of last summer. The crowd was fantastic! I loved the effort everyone made dressing up as different Eurovision countries, and I hope someone tops the outfit made from Iceland carrier bags from last year!”

To buy tickets for the Eurovision Final Watch-A-Long Party, which go on sale at 11am on Thursday, April 7, and to access more information about Central Park head to: www.centralparknewcastle.co.uk.

Central Park will return for 2022 on April 14 and be open seven days a week, with an outdoor entertainment space that will host a range of events and bring together some of the best local street food vendors under an expanded covered area which can hold up to 800 people.
