Newcastle residents hit with 3% council tax hike as council signs off £12m budget cut plan

A 3% council tax rise for people in Newcastle will go ahead, after city leaders signed off on £12m cut proposals.

Newcastle City Council voted through budget plans on Wednesday night that will also mean a hike in parking charges and fees for services such as pest control and garden waste collections.

11 local authority jobs are due to go as a result of the cuts, though there are fears of more widespread losses and harm to frontline services in the near future.
