Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has already taken a step closer to his long-term aim of improving the prospects at St James' Park with the additions of Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Sven Botman - but the recruitment drive is set to continue.
Indeed, the new faces will keep coming at United in the remainder of the current window and the January window as Howe looks to ensure that he has at least two Premier League quality stars competing for each place in his starting line-up. The signing of Botman at an initial £34million is a great example with Howe going into the season with the Dutchman and Dan Burn as his two left-sided centre-backs.
And on the opposite side, Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles, as things stand, will contest for a place alongside either the ex-Brighton star or the new man from Lille. It looks like a similar story at left-back with Targett going in against Paul Dummett and Jamal Lewis.
