Newcastle 'make contact' with Diego Simeone's son Giovanni amid impressive scoring form

Newcastle’s transfer activity shows no signs of slowing down even after the end of the January transfer window, as they prepare for an assault on the Premier League next season.

Sufficient additions were recruited in January to aid their relegation battle but now they are targeting a higher calibre of player as they look to become competitive and flex their status as the richest club in the world.

A proven goalscorer is top of the priority list ahead of the next campaign, despite the recent arrival of Chris Wood on a £25million deal.

Wood, has failed to hit the back of the net in his six appearances for the club so far and he could quickly find himself further down the pecking order within his first six months on Tyneside.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle have been scouting and more recently ‘made contact’ with Argentine striker Giovanni Simeone, as they look to secure a proven goalscorer for next season.

Can Chris Wood be relied on to score enough goals for Newcastle next season? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Simeone, the son of Atletico Madrid manager, Diego, has had an impressive season so far in 2021-22, scoring 15 goals in 24 appearances in Serie A for Hellas Verona whilst on loan from Cagliari.

The 26-year-old scored all four goals in his side's 4-1 victory over Napoli in October, while he scored a brace in a 2-1 victory against Juventus just a week later.

His form in front of goal has seen Verona climb up to ninth in the league table and leave them just four points outside the European places.

And now the Magpies are keen on his services and have supposedly made an approach to the player to discuss his current situation.

Verona have the option to buy Simeone at the end of his loan spell this season, and it is certainly an offer they will be keen to take up given his performances for them so far.

But his parent club, Cagliari, will also be mulling over their options to keep the striker on their books for the very same reason.

However, ‘El Cholito’ has recently hinted that he is keen to move on once again in the summer and this has put the Magpies on red alert.

Eddie Howe’s side are facing competition from Marseille and Atletico Madrid, however, with Simeone's father supposedly keen to reunite with his son in the Spanish capital.

Nonetheless, the Magpies have a big financial advantage, given their extreme wealth, and could offer him a lucrative enough contract to tempt him to the Premier League.
