After two weeks of voting and close to 10,000 nominations, we can now reveal the finalists for the return of Newcastle Loves and now the shortlisted venues need your votes!
When ChronicleLive first launched the Newcastle Loves awards back in 2019, it was the view to it being an annual event to celebrate everything that makes our wonderful city so great. Covid threw a huge spanner in the works of our plans for 2020 and 2021, but, now we feel it's more important than ever to bring them back to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work done by hospitality and leisure venues and business owners to survive and thrive during the pandemic.
There are 12 categories in Newcastle Loves this year, from Best Bar to Best Restaurant and Best Live Entertainment Venue to Best Club Night. There are a few new categories for 2022, including one to recognise the efforts of the industry over an incredibly tough few years - Covid Success Story and Best LGBTQ+ Venue, in recognition of Newcastle's vibrant gay scene and the fact the city is hosting UK Pride this year.

Commenting on Newcastle Loves' comeback, Helen Dalby, Audience & Content Director, Reach North East & Yorkshire said: "We had such a terrific night at our first Newcastle Loves event - it really did show off everything that's fantastic about this great city.
"Our second ever competition has been flooded with thousands of votes, and that shows us just how much Newcastle's venues have been missed and are loved.
"After the challenges of covid, it has never, ever been more important for us, as citizens of Newcastle, to get behind these businesses and show them our support.
"It has been incredible to see not only the resilience of our hospitality venues, but also the creativity that has shone through in the industry’s unwavering determination not just to survive, but to thrive."
The shortlists for watch category are below and you can vote for them by filling in the form at the bottom of the article or by heading HERE. There are five in each, apart from Casual Dining which has six as two venues were tied.
The final results will be revealed at an awards ceremony at The Lofts in Newcastle on Wednesday, August 10. Finalists will be contacted over the next week about claiming their free tickets, before any remaining ones are made available to the public.
