Anthony Gordon could be close to an exit from Everton as Newcastle have entered formal talks to sign the attacker, six months after Chelsea showed a strong interest in the summer transfer window. The Blues saw a £45million offer rejected by the Toffees before opting out of a deal due to the high price tag set by Everton which stood at £50million.
The 21-year-old scored in back-to-back Premier League games for Everton around the time of Chelsea's interest but since then he has only scored one league goal after falling out of favour with manager Frank Lampard which has resulted in him playing just 145 minutes of football in Everton's last seven league outings.
Chelsea legend and former boss Lampard has now been relieved of his duties at Goodison Park and his departure has coincided with a number of damaging news emerging from Merseyside.

Summer arrival Amadou Onana has been linked with a swift exit as both Chelsea and Arsenal have considered plotting moves for the Belgian midfielder, as per The Telegraph. On Tuesday the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma appeared imminent, but he now looks set to sign for Tottenham instead on loan from Villareal.
The news surrounding departures did not get any better for Everton, with Mail Online reporting that the Magpies have begun formal talks over a possible transfer for Gordon, although they are keeping their options open to other attackers in Europe. The public valuation placed on the club's academy graduate is £60million, however a cheaper deal has been mooted.
A package in the region of £25million plus £15m in add-ons could see an agreement reached. While Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke have all arrived since Chelsea's initial interest in Gordon, the Blues could move back in for the winger potentially as part of a clever deal with Everton.
Their report also states Chelsea could purchase Gordon and then immediately loan him back to Everton which could ultimately bring his high price tag down. This deal would also benefit the Merseyside club as Gordon would be able to help his boyhood club potentially avoid relegation and also give Everton plenty of time to identify and secure a replacement.
