Newcastle headlines as Mike Ashley takes over Championship stadium, Bruno Guimaraes' injury scare

Here are your latest Newcastle United evening headlines for Thursday, November 17.

Former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley takes control of Championship stadium for £17m

Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has picked up a new venture since leaving the Magpies by taking over the operating companies which run the Coventry Building Society (CBS) Arena. Ashley's Fraser Group had been the preferred bidder after launching a £17m bid for three struggling businesses that had been placed into administration.

A court heard Arena Coventry Ltd (ACL), Arena Coventry (2006) Ltd and IEC Experience Ltd only had £1,201 in their bank accounts, with an eye-watering energy bill for £2,000 due for payment on Friday.

Wilson had not been called up by England since 2019, but the 30-year-old was not about to give up on his World Cup dream - and he made it happen.

It is an inspiring story. Not only has Wilson bounced back from a number of setbacks on the field, including two serious knee injuries, but the striker also had a testing start in life and spent a brief period in foster care before going on to help his mother, Tara, raise his five siblings.
