The Newcastle Edwardian Ball has been an event in the city for 76 years, taking place almost every year ever since. It celebrates the music and dance of the Edwardian era, which began in 1901 when King Edward VII ascended the throne.
The dancers are not only keeping the spirit and traditions of those bygone days alive, but they have also raised money for numerous charities. These include the Alzheimer's Society, Percy Hedley, St Oswald's Hospice, Leonard Cheshire, the People's Kitchen and Age Concern.
The first ball, back in 1946, saw carriages arriving at the Old Assembly Rooms, bringing people to dance all night to the Lancers, the Quadrilles and many other Edwardian style dances.
