Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales has insisted that the Magpies are "always going to spend" as much as possible under Financial Fair Play restrictions. Following the club's takeover by a Saudi-led consortium in October 2021, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have faced fresh competition in the race for top-four.
It often takes a few years before new football club owners reap the fruits of their investment, but Eddie Howe has managed to secure a Champions League qualification place in his first full season in charge. While they proved to be no issue for the Gunners, the Blues and Spurs fell victim to Newcastle's meteoric rise in the top-flight.
But, unfortunately for Todd Boehly and Daniel Levy, the Magpies have lofty ambitions and Howe is looking to further bolster his squad for next season. According to the Chronicle Live, the 45-year-old held talks with higher-ups last week to discuss his summer budget.

The report states that, although it was not as much as Howe was hoping for, finishing in the top-four has given the club's war chest a healthy boost. While Newcastle are desperate to build upon their success this season, they face growing pressure from FFP restrictions.
So, when speaking at True Faith's end of season show, Eales revealed that he will be looking to make astute signings. In revealing the Magpies' summer plan, he aimed a sly dig at Boehly by suggesting that Chelsea haven't spent smartly.
"We are going to build for next year, but it's really important, as we build that team, we do bring in the right characters, the right people that fit there," said the Newcastle chief. "We have all seen it with other football clubs.
"It's not just about the money you spend - it's about how you spend it. The weekend's game [against Chelsea] is a perfect illustration of that. You're in safe hands with Eddie and Dan [Ashworth] in terms of knowing what it is we're looking for.
"The reality is we are always going to spend what we can under FFP. I can say that to you hand on heart here. The club will always be doing its best to get to where we want to get to, but we have got to make sure we do it methodically, in the right way that is sustainable.
"With Eddie Howe, it's unbelievable to see just what he does with the squad, the way he has galvanised them. It's really important that we keep building with that in mind. We've got a great pair of hands there with Eddie because he's unbelievably good."
