The busiest time of the year for Newcastle International Airport is almost upon us, but passengers are told they do not need to arrive early to catch a flight this summer unless advised to by their airline. Lengthy queues and delays have been a common occurrence at British airports this year, especially in peak travel periods like the Easter and Jubilee Bank Holiday weekends.
But at Newcastle International Airport, 98% of passengers get through security and into the departure lounge in six minutes or less. Newcastle Airport bosses are confident security queues and waiting times will be reasonable again over the school summer holidays and while passengers are being asked to arrive promptly for their check-in time, they are not being urged to come extra early.
A spokesperson for the airport told ChronicleLive: "We have been planning for the increase in passenger numbers for many months now and so far has been able to ensure that 98% of passengers passed through security in six minutes or less. Therefore, we advise passengers to not arrive earlier than communicated by their airline, arriving promptly for their allocated check-in time."

Some passengers may face difficulty towards the start of the six-week holidays, as Ryanair and EasyJet staff based at Spanish Airports are due to strike. Ryanair staff based at Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Malaga, Seville, Valencia, Alicante and Santiago de Compostela airports are due to go on strike from July 25 to July 28.
Easyjet employees at Palma, Barcelona and Malaga airports are due to walk out on July 29, 30 and 31. Newcastle International Airport advises passengers booked with Ryanair and EasyJet to follow their airline's advice.
