The pair dominated the race from the very beginning, maintaining a strong lead throughout and ultimately finishing over two seconds ahead of the Hungarian team comprising Tamara Csipes and Alida Dora Gazo, who secured the silver medal.

This victory marked Carrington's seventh Olympic title, further solidifying her position as New Zealand's most successful Olympian. With this win, she now stands just one gold medal away from matching the record of eight-time Olympic champion Birgit Fischer.
