New York Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin resigned on Tuesday, the same day he was arrested for allegedly conspiring to commit bribery while he served as a state senator, in addition to other charges.
“I have accepted Brian Benjamin’s resignation effective immediately,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement on Tuesday. “While the legal process plays out, it is clear to both of us that he cannot continue to serve as Lieutentant Governor. New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government, and I will continued working every day to deliver for them.”
