A flight from Switzerland to the USA was diverted to Manchester last night due to a 'medical emergency'.

Swiss International Airlines flight LX14 from Zurich to New York, which left the Swiss capital at 3.23pm Central European Time (CET) yesterday afternoon, had already flown over the UK and was heading over the Atlantic Ocean on its route towards New York's JFK Airport when it turned back. The Airbus A330 plane landed at Manchester Airport shortly before 7:45pm UK time last night (Friday).

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport confirmed they had received the aircraft. This morning, a spokesperson for the airline confirmed the plane had to be diverted due to a 'medical emergency'.
