New year 2023 : Diet resolution for healthy skin

Everyone thinks of a new year resolution every year - some ask for their dream figure, some look forward towards their academic goal, for some giving their family more time is the goal. But rare are those who consider their skin health. So this new year make a resolution to get a glowing and blemish free skin, as suggested by dietician Garima Goyal.

1. Healthy and well balanced diet - Diet is the most crucial part when talking about healthy skin. Excess of sugar consumption in these days is the main cause of skin ageing, acne and dullness. A healthy diet containing more servings of fruits and vegetables along with lean protein and fibre is very skin friendly. Even if you want to eat junk food, eat a little for taste but never overdo on eating such foods.

2. Never ignore sunscreen - Using sunscreen is very important for a healthy and supple skin. The UV rays of sun harm the skin and cause its shine to lose. Even if a woman has to do makeup, first apply sunscreen and then other cosmetic products.

3. Follow a skincare routine - Always make a routine for your skin such as make it a ritual to cleanse your face after coming from outside to avoid dust and diet getting clogged in the pores. Before sleeping, cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser as per your skin type and apply moisturiser that contains natural nourishing ingredients. Night serums also work wonders to rejuvenate the skin. Markets are full of herbal products. So choose wisely keeping in mind your skin type.

4. Hydration is the key - The most important key for glowing skin is hydration. Try to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. You can also use detox water such as watermelon infused, cucumber and lime infused or kinnow and lime infused water for added health benefits and skin glow.

5. Sound sleep - To keep the skin look fresh and active with a reddish hue, having a minimum of eight hours of sleep is important. It also keeps dark circles at bay.

6. Use kitchen ingredients - Stay as close to nature as possible and use various kitchen ingredients on your skin such as cucumber, ripe papaya, ripe banana, fresh aloe vera gel, fresh rose water etc.

7. Well moisturise the skin - Scaly skin particularly hands and feet is a typical outcome of cold weather. So keep in mind to moisturise your whole body, not just face. Apply on all the areas of your body.

8. Exfoliation - Have you ever wondered that you daily apply moisturiser but still your skin lacks that shine. Try exfoliation or scrubbing before applying moisturiser. It helps to remove the dead skin cells and allows better penetration of moisturiser in the skin.

9. Monthly manicure or pedicure - Despite keeping good care of the skin, particles keep on sticking to the skin and especially feet and hands. Nail beds get dirty with the dust particles so try doing a manicure and pedicure done on a monthly basis.

Keeping a well balanced diet, being physically active and trying sun protection will enable to keep the skin healthy in 2023. Use products as close to nature as possible and make a skincare routine.
