New Wonka trailer starring Timothee Chalamet teases first look at chocolate factory

The highly anticipated Wonka movie starring Timothee Chalamet is just around the corner, with the release date set as December 15, 2023.

The movie will tell the story of Willy Wonka, focusing on how he went from being a young boy with big dreams to the world-famous king of candy, and be a prequel to Roald Dahl’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Chalamet will be joined by a star-studded cast, including Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Matt Lucas, Keegan-Michael Key and others.

With the release date drawing closer, Warner Bros has revealed a brand new teaser trailer, offering fans a first glance at the vibrant chocolate factory.

The trailer begins with Wonka finally capturing the “funny little man” who has been “following” him, who happens to be the Oompa Loompa portrayed by Hugh Grant. In response to Wonka’s description of him, the vibrant creature responds: “Funny little man? How dare you! I will have you know that I’m a perfectly respectable size for an Oompa Loompa.”

An understandably confused Wonka goes on to ask: “An Oompa what now?”

To which, Grant’s character says: “In fact, in Oompa Land, I am regarded as something of a whopper. They call me Lofty.”

The teaser goes on to show Wonka trying to prove himself as the magical inventor he hopes to be recognised as and wow the crowds with his chocolate creations.

Envious of his talent and vision, the chocolatier gets told that he is not to sell chocolate in the town. However, Wonka is determined to keep going.

Directed by the man behind Paddington, Paul King, the movie promises to be a heartwarming affair that will add cheer to the Christmas countdown.

While talking about why he decided to take on the role, Chalamet previously told Vogue: “To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy. That’s why I was drawn to it.

“In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.”
