A new trailer for the upcoming Wonka film, starring Timothée Chalamet, has been released - with fans catching a glimpse of Hugh Grant playing the role of an Oompa Loompa. In a scene towards the end of the trailer, the British actor is seen sporting bright green hair and an orange face, just like the fictional characters.
He is asked by Wonka: "So you're the funny little man who's been following me?" While trapped inside a glass jar, the Oompa Loompa replies: "I will have you know that I am a perfectly respectful size for an Oompa Loompa.
"Allow me to refresh your memory," he adds, before playing a flute-like instrument and dancing. The scene ends with Grant saying: "I've started dancing now, and once I've started I can't stop."
Grant plays alongside Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka in the highly anticipated film, which acts as a prequel to the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation starring Johnny Depp. In the movie, fans will get to see how the famous Roald Dahl character came to open his own chocolate factory.
Other actors featuring in the movie - which is due to premiere this December - include the likes of comedian Matt Lucas, Mr Bean star Rowan Atkinson, Horrible Histories actor Matthew Baynton, Peep Show's Paterson Joseph, Sally Hawkins and Keegan-Michael Key. The film offers a glimpse into what Willy Wonka's early life was like.
In the trailer, he is described as "something of a magician, inventor and chocolate maker". Many people have taken to social media to react to the trailer, with plenty amused by Hugh Grant's appearance.
Daydreamdess tweeted: "Thought another wonka movie was unnecessary but now i’m sold, give me more oompa loompa hugh grant." Filmlamet said: "Literally no one else could oompa loompa as hard as hugh grant."
SnarkkTank added: "I know I've criticized the idea of another Willy Wonka movie, but Hugh Grant is hilarious in this scene, and I can't stop watching it!" MediumSizeMeech declared: "Hugh Grant Oscar nom for Wonka is imminent!"
Hayli_d_1986 added: "Hugh Grant playing an Oompa Loompa and doing a little dance for new wonka film, it really doesn’t sound right . But when you watch the trailer wow what a casting!!" Holly4brav0 typed: "Okayyy i was so excited for Timothée as Wonka - butttt Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa - just amazing."
