New Women’s Super League season offers chance to build on summer high of England’s Euros glory

The cancellation of football last weekend was a particular blow to the women’s game, delaying the WSL’s bumper opening round, which was set to be a celebration of the sport and England’s history-making Lionesses.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Brighton were all planning to play their opening game at their men’s stadiums, and clubs had reported record ticket sales after a breakthrough summer for the sport.
