New video appears to show US Tomahawk missile explode near Iran girls’ school

  • New footage appears to show a US Tomahawk missile exploding near a girls' school in Minab, Iran amid the investigation into whose missile led to the deaths of approximately 175 people at the school.
  • US military investigators have said they believe American forces were likely responsible for the strike, though President Donald Trump has blamed Iran, stating they are “very inaccurate” with their munitions.
  • The Independent analyzed the new clip, which has been verified by The Washington Post, New York Times, and Bellingcat, showing a large plume of black smoke after what appears to be a Tomahawk missile strike next to the school. The US is the only country directly attacking Iran known to have Tomahawk missiles.
  • An investigation by The New York Times, utilizing satellite imagery and verified videos, suggests the school was hit during a US attack on nearby buildings, with the Pentagon having confirmed strikes on a naval base operated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in the vicinity.
  • UN experts have condemned the incident as a “grave assault on children” and called for an urgent, independent investigation into the attack, emphasising that civilians must never be treated as collateral.
