New UK Covid travel rules today for Brits back from France, Spain, Greece and more

New UK Covid travel rules have come into force today with changes affecting Covid test requirements and self-isolation rules.

The UK government previously revealed the latest update to travel restrictions, which will affect both vaccinated and unvaccinated Brits returning from holidays abroad.

The changes came into force at 4am, which is ideal timing for UK families heading to popular half term holiday spots such as Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and more.

Of course each holiday hotspot has its own entry rules to follow - we've rounded up the latest updates here to make life easier - so always check the Foreign Office travel advice for your chosen destination before booking a trip.

In the meantime we take a look at what's changing for UK arrivals from tomorrow depending on your vaccination status.

New travel rules if you're vaccinated

Fully vaccinated means having received a full course of a Covid vaccine - aka two doses of a two-dose jab.

If you're fully vaccinated, you'll need to fill out a passenger locator form in the 48 hours before you depart for the UK.

From 4am tomorrow, this is the only requirement if you're double jabbed, as day two Covid tests are being scrapped.

Travelling with unvaccinated children?

According to the GOV UK website: "Children aged 4 and under do not have to take any COVID-19 travel tests. Children aged 5 to 17 have to follow the testing and quarantine rules for people who qualify as fully vaccinated on arrival in England."

New travel rules if you're unvaccinated

If you're unvaccinated or partially vaccinated (for example, one dose of a two-dose vaccine), you'll need to fill out a passenger locator form in the 48 hours before you depart for the UK. You'll also need to take a pre-departure Covid test such as a PCR or LFD in the two days before you depart.

From 4am tomorrow, self-isolation is being scrapped for returning travellers, as well as day eight Covid tests.

You will still need to have done your pre-departure test, and you'll also be required to take a post-arrival test.

Do I need a Covid test to go abroad?

This depends on your destination, as each country has its own entry rules and restrictions.

The easiest way to find out what you need before you travel is to check the UK Foreign Office's advice for a holiday spot before you book or go on your trip.

In recent weeks a number of countries have been easing their restrictions, often for vaccinated travellers.

For example, Greece and Portugal have axed Covid test rules for double jabbed tourists, with France expected to follow suit within days. Meanwhile, Australia has revealed it is reopening its borders to tourists later this month. This marks the first time that UK holidaymakers will be able to visit Australia since March 2020, although you will need to be vaccinated in order to be granted entry.
