The Tennessee Titans are hiring long-time Washington Commanders running backs coach Randy Jordan to the same role, according to reports.
Jordan will be replacing now-former running backs coach Justin Outten, who the Titans are reportedly keeping but switching to tight ends coach.
Jordan is a solid hire for the Titans, as he brings a lot of experience from two decades of coaching, both in college and the pros. And, he has an extensive connection to a very prominent coach on Tennessee’s new staff.
We’ll talk about that and more as we take a look at three things to know about Tennessee’s new running backs coach.
Former player
After going undrafted out of North Carolina, Jordan spent nine seasons in the league, including six with the Raiders and three with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He had just five starts in 122 games and finished his career with 152 carries for 574 rushing yards, 58 receptions for 596 yards, and nine touchdowns.
A wealth of experience
Jordan has served as a running backs coach since 2004, both in college and the pros.
He’s had stops in Nebraska (2004-07), Texas A&M (2008-11), North Carolina (2012-13) and then Washington (2014-23), where he also served as senior offensive assistant in 2023.
In what is the mark of a good coach, Jordan survived a head-coaching change when the Commanders fired Jay Gruden and hired Ron Rivera.
Bill Callahan connections
As far as connections to the Titans’ current coaching staff is concerned, Jordan has an extensive history working with Tennessee’s offensive line coach, Bill Callahan.
Jordan played under Callahan during his days with the Raiders and was then hired by Callahan as an assistant coach with the Raiders and was his running backs coach when he was the head coach at Nebraska.
The two also worked together in Washington, when Callahan was the offensive line coach, assistant head coach and then interim head coach during his stint there.
