New theory emerges about why Ryan Tubridy is leaving Late Late Show

Long-time Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy announced he will be stepping down from hosting duties on the chat show last week, leading to a great deal of speculation as to why now and who would replace him.

While rumours have swirled across social media about the exact reason Tubridy stepped down, with the host himself simply explaining that "when you know, you know", no concrete reason has been given.

Newstalk host Gavan Reilly has come up with a unique reason, which he calls a "conspiracy theory" regarding why Tubridy may have opted to call time.

"I think he's going to run for president," Reilly explained on his radio show on Monday morning.

"I think Ryan Tubridy's going to run for president because I think that an awful lot of his ethos to The Late Late Show in the last couple of years has been about this being almost like a national altar, where you discuss issues that are of universal appeal to everyone.

"I think he particularly took his perception as being some sort of national pastor during Covid to heart. I think that he really enjoys the idea of being the ringmaster for the national circus that is the Toy Show.

"I think that it wouldn't be all that unusual for him to decide to go for the highest office in the country," he added.

It is still anyone's guess who will take over the role and why Tubridy chose now to step down.

According to sources who spoke to The Irish Mirror, the host quit the show as he was sick of living in the spotlight.

A source told the publication: "He was never comfortable about being portrayed as a celebrity. He is a very down-to-earth and grounded normal guy who, unlike many others, hates the whole idea of fame."
