New striker backed to shine for SPFL side, though cup clash comes too soon

St Mirren manager Craig McLeish expects Eseosa Sule to hit the ground running, but the striker is unlikely to feature against Cove Rangers on Saturday.

Henry Fieldson could make his debut in the Premier Sports Cup game, and Sule is set to feature before the group stage ends.

The 20-year-old joined on a three-year deal from West Brom earlier this week after a loan move to Motherwell last season was cut short by injury early in the campaign.

McLeish said: “He’ll be in the squad, but it’s maybe not likely that we see him on the pitch yet. He’s a little bit behind just in terms of when he started back down south and the work that he’s then done with us in a short space of time.

“Hopefully, the fans will start to see him more and more over the next few weeks and leading into the start of the league campaign. That was really important for us to make sure that we had at least one of our forwards in before the start of the league campaign.

“We’ll then look at continuing to strengthen that area of the pitch as well.

“But it was really important that we got a permanent forward in.

“The fact that we’ve now got him for three years is brilliant for us to work with him. We fully expect him to hit the ground running and come in and impact this season.

“He was always a really exciting player coming through at Celtic, always caused a lot of problems.

“As soon as it became apparent that it could be a permanent, we wanted to move on it, and we wanted to move on it quickly, so we’re delighted to have him in.

“West Brom think really highly of him. There’s bits in the deal that further down the line they may have the opportunity to take him back because it’s someone that they think highly of.

“Eseosa wanted to get out and play regular first-team football.”

Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson added goalkeeper Marius Muller to his squad ahead of the visit of Queen’s Park and revealed the German had been brought in amid interest in Dimitar Mitov.

“Marius is a very experienced goalkeeper,” Robinson said. “He’s played at a very high level in the Bundesliga, so he adds real experience and real quality to the goalkeeping group. It was something we’d been monitoring.

“Obviously, there has been a bit of interest in Dimi, and we have to be prepared for that.

“I’m somebody who believes in being proactive instead of reactive, where you end up paying too much money in the last days of the window. So we’ve moved very quickly to put that in place.”

Dundee United host Arbroath in a crucial encounter after Jim Goodwin’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat to Montrose on Tuesday.

St Johnstone host Morton while Championship promotion hopefuls Livingston and Partick Thistle meet in West Lothian, and Ayr are looking to consolidate top spot in Group G when Edinburgh City visit Somerset Park.
