New store opening its doors to shoppers in Broadmead this weekend

A new shop will throw open its doors in time for Broadmead shoppers this weekend. A YMCA charity shop is coming to The Galleries on Saturday from 9am in the Bristol shopping district.

YMCA Broadmead, which is part of a network of YMCA charity shops across England and Wales, is inviting shoppers to come along and mark its grand opening. It will become the second YMCA store in Bristol after its sister site in Broadwalk Shopping Centre, Knowle.

The new branch will offer a range of sustainable shopping selections, from clothing and homeware to electrical and furniture goods. The store will offer a free collection service for furniture, and funds raised from donated goods will go towards supporting young people locally and nationally, with YMCA Brunel Group benefiting directly.

Emma Keene, retail area manager of YMCA South West, said: “YMCA Broadmead charity shop is so proud to become part of the local community and to help transform the lives of young people in Bristol, along with YMCA Knowle. We would love people to come along and celebrate with us on the day, and would also welcome any donations they may have, as well as any volunteer interest from the community. Your support really does mean the world and makes all the difference. Thank you!”

YMCA Broadmead is part of YMCA England & Wales, the largest and oldest youth charity in the world. Money raised at YMCA charity shops plays a vital part in helping to transform the lives of young people across almost 700 local communities, from providing a warm bed for homeless young people to delivering mental health advice and counselling for those in need.

It was recently announced that the site of the store The Galleries is set to be demolished and rebuilt as a new development. If approved, the site will close for good in two years to make way for flats, offices, shops, bars and restaurants. The shopping centre has faced many challenges as the high street enters difficult times due to changing shopping habits. The Galleries had also been feeling the pressure from the neighbouring Cabot Circus which itself has struggled, and has recently lost a major brand from one of its larger units.
