New Spotify feature lets you exclude playlists from your taste profile

Spotify has added a new feature that allows users to exclude playlists from their taste profile.

The new feature means you can exclude any playlists you listen to that you don't want to see included in your personalised playlists made by Spotify, such as your Discover Weekly or Release Radar playlists. For example, if you like to listen to ambient sounds to fall asleep, or play film sound tracks while you're working to help you focus, you can exclude those playlists from your taste profile.

At the moment, Spotify makes your personalised playlists based on your listening data that the app collects. And while this is one of the most helpful features on the app, it doesn't always get it right.

Usually, Spotify is able to pick up on which artists are your favourites and the app will then send you updates if they release new music or will be performing near you on tour. However, if you listen to white noise or background music on the app, it can cause issues.

The new update means any playlists you listen to that you don't want influencing your personalised playlists, you can exclude. Here's how:

  1. Open the playlist you want to exclude.
  2. Tap the three dots next to the download option at the top of the playlist
  3. Select 'exclude from your taste profile'

Once you do that, you should get a message from the app saying that listening to that playlist will have less impact on your taste profile and recommendations.

At the moment, we don't know if this option will exclude these playlists from your Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year.
