A new service station has been planned at an 'ideally positioned' Nottinghamshire spot. The new service station would be built on 6.2 acres of farmland located at the A46/A606 Melton Road roundabout, Hickling, if plans are approved by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
The station would be run by Welcome Break Services Ltd and offer a new eight pump refuelling forecourt, rest and relaxation facilities within the main building featuring a drive-thru lane, hot food, toilet and shower facilities, and a sales area. There would be a separate drive-thru coffee building, with the whole site creating 65 new jobs.
Parking will be provided for cars, vans, light goods vehicles (LGV), motorbikes, cyclists and coaches incorporating dedicated EV charging point spaces. A HGV zone is also planned offering refuelling facilities, 24 hour parking, and space for an abnormal load vehicle.

There would be 57 car spaces, four disabled spaces and 10 motorcycle spaces. A total of 20 electric vehicle charging bays and associated charging upstands would also be created.
The developers say the design of the plan's main building means a mezzanine level could be added if necessary to provide extra services. They have said the site's location, with A46 to the West, the A606 to the East and a major roundabout to the North, made it "ideally positioned to meet the needs of the passing motorist".
In a planning document, Rapleys on behalf of Venari Land Ltd, said: "The site is in an enviably convenient location to efficiently provide a range of services to an array of motorists. The development will provide local jobs in a rural location, meet unmet need for facilities (including for HGV drivers), overprovide relative to EV charging and provide biodiversity enhancements that go well beyond policy targets.
"The proposal therefore accords with the three overarching objectives of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental) as set out in the NPPF, and should be supported in these terms." The planning application is pending consideration by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
