New season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is releasing sooner than we thought

Having been announced last July, some three years after the first season aired, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is going to release on Netflix this Fall. While the exact date is yet to be revealed, CDPR released a new promotional image for the anime, showing a new but somewhat recognizable cast of characters.

CDPR announced the release window on X via the official Edgerunners account. The announcement did not contain any extensive information about the story or when exactly the show is to air on Netflix, but we now at least know it’s going to be a part of an already packed Fall. We also got to see what appear to be the show’s new protagonists, which are going to be entirely different than the first season, at least nominally.

There’s your chromed-up big dude, a depressed, flawed teenage protagonist, his elusive, strange love interest and a childlike character that will probably swear a lot and be a lot more grown-up in character than meets the eye.

The art style for this anime also appears to be significantly different from the previous one, but I reckon it’s going to be just as spectacular and well-animated, considering it’s Studio Trigger working on it. They’re an incredibly talented bunch, and everything they’ve produced is solid gold, so I can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with here.

Cyberpunk remains one of the best, well, cyberpunk series out there, maintaining that distinct 1980s retrofuturistic look and grappling with striking philosophical and cultural dilemmas. I expect nothing less of this new season and hope to see a trailer or additional information as we grow closer to release.
