New Rutherglen bistro owned by Cambuslang funeral director shoots up TripAdvisor rankings

A brand new Rutherglen-based bistro owned by a Cambuslang funeral director has been doing well in the town after only opening a few weeks ago.

The Cedarwood Bistro at Newfield Place opened its doors to the public on March 27 and has since been chock-a-block with customers, so much so that it has had to introduce a reservation system to cope with the numbers.

Since opening, the restaurant has shot up the TripAdvisor rankings to become the second-top restaurant on its rankings.

Owner Alastair Blue from Cambuslang has spoken on how proud he is of the business already, and said: “The past few weeks have been amazing. It has been absolutely packed all day, seven days a week.

“Although we don’t want to, we have had to turn people away due to how busy it has been. It is a great early sign, and it shows you how good it has been so far.

“To end up becoming the number two eatery in Rutherglen in just three weeks is mental. Our new staff have been brilliant, and they have helped make it what it is.

“The community has really accepted us, and I am so thankful for that.”

This isn’t Alistair's first venture into the hospitality industry, with the 30-year-old also running The Glenwood Bistro, and he has spoken about maintaining the same standards with his Rutherglen eatery.

He added: “We noticed a real gap in the market for a bistro at this side of the town, and we believe it will be a good asset to the area.

“We brought our staff over from the Glenwood Bistro to train up our new staff here. It is all about maintaining those same standards and protocols that have made us so successful thus far.

“We want people to have the same great experience, and we have managed to do that.”

The Cedarwood Bistro is open seven days a week from 9am to 10pm (11pm on Fridays and Saturdays), with an hour break between 3pm and 4pm.
