Del Boy and Rodney have got a new Grandad.
Les Dennis will take over the role in Only Fools and Horses : The Musical from October 3, as the show extends its run at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket until 7 January 2023.
Les, 68, will star alongside Tom Bennett, who plays Del Boy, and Ryan Hutton, who stars as Rodney, in the popular stage show.
He takes over from Paul Whitehouse, 64, who co-wrote the show, which launched in theatres in February 2019, and has played to over half a million people.
Les says: “I am so excited to be playing Grandad in ‘Only Fools and Horses The Musical’.
“Like everyone else, I would tune in weekly to watch the hilarious exploits of the Trotters and would laugh and cry in equal measure. It was both funny and touching.
“Jim Sullivan and Paul Whitehouse have written a wonderful show that beautifully recreates that feel-good era of British comedy. I can’t wait to join the hugely talented cast and be a part of it. Lovely jubbly!”
The role of Grandad was played by Lennard Pearce in the 1980s, with Phil Daniels reprising the character in 2010.
Del Boy was played by David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst portrayed Rodney in the BBC sitcom.
