New restaurant and bar opening in Liverpool's The Plaza building

A new restaurant and bar is set to open inside The Plaza building in Liverpool later this year.

Award-winning GSG Hospitality has teamed up with Liverpool chef Dave Critchley for the new city centre restaurant. The company already own several venues in the city, including Duke Street Food and Drink Market, Bold Street Coffee, Salt Dog Slims and Slim’s on Bold Street.

The ground floor of The Plaza, which is in the heart of Liverpool’s business district and has been a part of the city’s iconic skyline since the 1960s, will be transformed with an “extraordinary new hospitality driven arrival experience”. GSG plans to create a “destination restaurant and bar concept” is part of a wider £3.7m reimagining of The Plaza by Bruntwood Works.

Chef Dave will be bringing his expertise in Asian cuisine and a “plethora of experience, skills and knowledge” to help assist with the project on a consultancy basis. He has received multiple awards for his commitment to Chinese culinary arts and has appeared on Great British Menu.

Dave recently won Visit England’s Taste of England award for Lu Ban where he is the Executive Chef Director. He said: “It’s fantastic to be teaming up with GSG Hospitality on their latest project in Liverpool. I’m really looking forward to working with the team and adding Asian influences to the menu development. It’ll be a very exciting and unique destination in the city.”

John Ennis, Director of GSG Hospitality, commented: “We’re incredibly excited to have Chef Dave Critchley on board and collaborating on the development of what will be one of Liverpool’s primary culinary destinations. We have huge ideas for this space and Dave’s experience will add another dimension to the concept development.”

Matt Farrell, Director of GSG Hospitality, added: “I have known Dave for a long time and he shares the desires of sustainability and social values that we share at GSG. He’s spent years fine tuning his skills, knowledge and expertise to an outstanding level and we’re looking forward to sharing more details of the restaurant-bar that will open later this year.”
