New realistic An Post scam doing the rounds as criminals target Irish users with 'delivery' email

A new super-realistic scam is doing the rounds targeting people with a new An Post "delivery" email.

Scams have increased massively in the last 18 months, with Irish people being caught out on multiple occasions.

Fake text messages and emails are being sent to people that appear to be from services including An Post, the HSE and Revenue.

Customers who click the links in the messages are then directed to fake websites where they are asked for their card details,their online banking login or other personal information.

In the newest scam email, which is titled 'your package is on the way', the copy reads:

"Dear customer,

"You have a package in transit but we have not been able to confirm your address.

"Please proceed to the form with the button below to expedite your delivery.

"Continue"

Included on the head of the email is the official An Post logo, while at the bottom, there is a warning of: " Please be advised that confirmation must take place within 48 hours of receiving this email."

The fraudsters even went as far as putting an estimated delivery date for the unknown item.

Meanwhile, an Irishman has told his cautionary tale of being conned out of thousands of euros in an online dating scam, after thinking he’d met his match during Covid.

Tom spoke on RTE’s Liveline and said that he was trying his hand at online dating during the pandemic lockdowns when he met a wonderful woman from South Korea.

The pair hit it off and began a relationship on Facebook, before exchanging phone numbers and having numerous video calls.

As their relationship continued over the phone, she gained his trust and began to tell the middle-aged man about the money she was making in online trading. Before he knew it he had handed over €500 and his new flame was leading the way with the alleged broker she was using herself
