New DWP rates for Universal Credit, State Pension and other benefits from April 2023

Millions of people who receive benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are set for a cash boost in April. Benefits and the State Pension are uprated by 10.1% for the 2023-24 financial year in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate for last September.

While benefit payments are increased each year, this will be a much greater boost than usual because of soaring inflation rates during the cost of living crisis. The benefits uprating in April is estimated to cost the government around £11 billion, but chancellor Jeremy Hunt vowed to "protect the most vulnerable" in his autumn budget.

For people on Universal Credit, the uprating will mean an extra £26.80 a month for those under 25 and £33.83 more for those older. Joint claimants who are both under the age of 25 will see payments increased by £42.06 a month and couples with at least one person older than 25 will get an extra £53.10.
