Whitley Bay town centre may be the new home for a new “plush” cocktail bar.
An application submitted to North Tyneside Council seeks to transform the former ‘Glitter and Beauty’ nail salon on Whitley Road into a new watering hole. If the application is green-lit, locals can observe the “theatre of cocktail making” and enjoy a variety of cocktails from a pornstar martini to an old fashioned.
The name of the prospective bar, Willow Bay is, according to the applicant, “a play on words, echoing our heritage of living and growing up in Whitley Bay”.

In a written submission to North Tyneside Council, the applicant said: “It has been my dream for a few years now to own my own premises, and I have had plenty of time to think about the kind of premises I want to operate.”
The establishment would be open from 8am until 11.30pm with alcohol being served between 11am to 11pm. Takeaway and sit-in coffees and teas will also be served and the premises will be dog-friendly if permitted.
The bar also hopes to serve a variety of IPAs, American lagers, Pils, Helles, German Pilsner, and some amber ales. The applicant is also exploring opportunities to obtain pumpkin beer, which is reportedly popular in the United States and Canada.
The applicant has said the premises will be a “casual lounge bar” with ambient music. “Think Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty or Dire Straits”, the applicant explained, “We are also partial to a bit of funk and soul.
“We think this reflects the target demographic of the premises, which is a more mature clientele.”
