Work is well underway at the site where the new Sherwood library will be built, along with new homes and a Sainsbury's Local. Images show the steel structure of the site centrepiece being constructed, which is the first part of the development.
Property developers Hockley Developments is working on the site at Spondon Street in Sherwood and once complete, the new library will be 50 per cent bigger than the former one. There will also be mixed housing on the site.
Local residents were previously positive about a Sainsbury's Local coming to that part of Sherwood too. The redevelopment of the site comes after Nottingham City Council deemed the old library was no longer fit for purpose.

Speaking earlier this year, Paul Kennedy, head of construction at Hockley Developments, said: "We are delighted to have seen the progress in Q4 last year, and the foundations in.
"Understandably, there is a lot of excitement about this development locally, which will transform this part of Sherwood, and we look forward to playing our part developing Sherwood, as well as providing some much needed housing."
Rebeka Dobuma, business development manager at Hockley Developments, said: "Since the hoarding went up at the end of last week, we have been getting five or six calls and emails every day, with people keen to find out more about the family houses that we are developing.
"We already have 40 people pre-registered for further information, which shall be released for sale later this year, and we are delighted with the response.
"This will be a great place to live, so close to Nottingham city centre, and with excellent schools nearby."
Hockley Developments is currently developing at several sites in Nottingham, and expect to have new sites in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire through 2022.
