In about two weeks, we will have a clearer picture of what the Pittsburgh Steelers need to do in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft. The Steelers need to trim some salary cap to make any waves in free agency, which means Pittsburgh will lean heavily on the draft.
The folks over at Pro Football Network have a new one-round mock draft and frankly, it misses the mark big time for the Steelers. They have Pittsburgh drafting former Utah Clark Phillips III with the No. 17 overall pick.
If the Steelers need a cornerback so be it but drafting the 5th cornerback of the round with the No. 17 pick doesn’t feel like a good value. There are better options at other positions of need including EDGE Lukas Van Ness, linebacker Drew Sanders and offensive tackle Peter Skoronski.
Pittsburgh must get a return on its investment with the No. 17 and No. 32 picks. Phillips is a solid player and if he were the pick at No. 32, this would be a different conversation. Let us know in the comments who your pick would be in this mock draft.
