New Parkinson's disease test developed from woman who can 'smell the condition'

A woman's super-strong sense of smell has helped scientists develop a test to detect people suffering from Parkinson's disease.

Joy Milne, 72, from Perth, in Scotland, has a rare condition that gives her a heightened sense of smell and she noticed that her late husband Les developed a different smell which turned out to be caused by Parkinson's.

He started to smell differently when he was aged 33 and it was 12 years later that he was diagnosed with the disease which leads to parts of the brain becoming progressively damaged over years.
