A new old fashioned sandwich spot is all set to hit First Street. Called CAFF, it will be turning out old school sarnies, barms and butties when it opens later this month.
By its own description, it will be a ‘No messing brekkies + butties establishment’ serving up ‘all the northern goodness you could dream of’. So that means classic ham salads, egg and cress, Seabrooks crisps and whatnot.
For a bit of a further steer on the vibe of the place, its slogan is ‘no avo, no keto, just baps’. However, that said, there will be vegan and gluten-free options available, alongside local produce from the likes of Littlewoods Butchers and Robinson’s bakery in Failsworth.

It’s being set up by the folks behind Grub, the food court on Red Bank that’s launched dozens of street food businesses over the years. The location for CAFF will be in the food kiosk on First Street, where the likes of Wood, Bunny Jackson’s and HOME are set up.
Jason Bailey, the mastermind behind both Grub and CAFF, said: “Manchester was crying out for a no nonsense butty shop so we are all massively excited to fill some bellies with this proper northern grub!
“No avo, no keto, just baps. We hope everyone in Manchester gets to sample some no messing sarnies and we're overjoyed to be using absolutely classic local bakers Robinsons and smashing butchers Littlewoods of Heaton Mersey.”
This could be the part of a burgeoning 'scene'. Adam Reid, celebrated chef at The French, recently launched The Butty Shop at New Century, with the aim of bringing back childhood classic sandwiches and giving them a light gourmet twist.
Jamie Hills, Development Director at Ask Real Estate, the developers behind First added: “We’re pleased to support a local, independent business with CAFF. They will provide a quality and good value breakfast and lunch offering to the First Street neighbourhood, specialising in no-nonsense great butties.
“CAFF will add to our diverse mix of operators at First Street where we continue to attract new businesses and employers to the estate.”
