A well-known Tynemouth hotel is set to have a new name when it reopens next year following a multimillion-pound refurbishment by new owners The Inn Collection Group.
The art deco Park Hotel has been closed for some time but will open with a new look in 2023 as The Tynemouth Castle Inn – taking its name from the nearby structure that once sat on the headland to the south east of the Inn. Fortifications are believed to have been present at the site since the 11th century until the mid-part of the 20th.
The building was acquired by the Newcastle group in April 2021 and works are being carried out by Gateshead-based STP Construction, the main contractor, and GSS Architecture, the lead designer. The redevelopment includes an extensive remodelling of the current bar and dining areas along with the site’s existing rooms. A two-storey extension is being built in place of a previously underused function and events area, which will create additional bedroom space for guests.
