A new mum only saw her baby for a few seconds before she went into cardiac arrest and died - leaving her husband to raise their son alone. Bernadette Horsey collapsed during the birth of her son Tim, who she managed to catch a glimpse of before she tragically passed away aged just 31 shortly after.
Her devastated husband Aaron, from Beeston in Nottinghamshire, recalled the horrifying events of January 19 this year, when Bernadette gave birth at the Royal Derby Hospital. While he said his wife's care was "generally pretty good" with a caesarean section to deliver their son going "smoothly", he raised concerns about Bernadette's health not long after baby Tim was born, when the new mum went into cardiac arrest, NottinghamshireLive reports.
Aaron said there were plenty of medical professionals around, but none of them noticed Bernadette had gone into cardiac arrest and said no one had been assigned to watch her even though she had just given birth. He added that Bernadette had been given oxytocin, which is used to promote the progress of labour and bring on contractions, and he thinks this could have either contributed to her cardiac arrest or was administered during it.
