JUNE 22

My Happy Marriage

Directed by Ayuko Tsukahara.

Who’s in it?

Manabu Hamada, Shôhei Hino and Yusuke Hirayama.

What’s it about?

Born to a noble family, Miyo is raised by her abusive stepmother and married off to Kiyoka, a soldier so heartless his prior fiancées fled within three days into their engagement. With no home to return to, Miyo slowly starts to open her heart to her cold and pale husband-to-be, despite their rocky introduction... This might just be her chance at finding true love and happiness.

Why watch it?

The modern Japanese version of Cinderella. 


Kitty The Killer

Directed by Lee Thongkham.

Who’s in it?

Vithaya Pansringarm, Somchai Kemglad and Ploypailin Thangprapaporn.

What’s it about?

Dina, a girl assassin, works with Keng, who is betrayed by his organisation. Keng meets Charlie and develops a special connection with him. Before dying, Keng makes Charlie the new 'Gray Fox Guardian’.

Why watch it?

An action movie that combines comedy in the style of a comic movie.


Elemental

Directed by Peter Sohn.

Who’s in it?

The voices of Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie and Ronnie Del Carmen.

What’s it about?

The film journeys alongside an unlikely pair, Ember and Wade, in a city where fire, water, land and air residents live together. The fiery young woman and the go-with-the-flow guy are about to discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.

Why watch it?

The film is based on director Peter Sohn's life with his parents immigrating to the USA from Korea — not speaking a word of English and settling into the Bronx. Sohn's family also opened up a grocery store names Sohn's Fruits and Vegetables — similar to Ember's family in the film.


Liu lang di qiu 2 (The Wandering Earth II)

Directed by Frant Gwo and Erlendur Sveinsson.

Who’s in it?

Andy Lau, Jing Wu and Willis Chung.

What’s it about?

Humans built huge engines on the surface of the earth to find a new home. But the road to the universe is perilous. In order to save earth, young people once again have to step forward to start a race against time for life and death.

Why watch it?

The live-action studio was 10 times larger than the one for the first movie, reaching 1 million metres square, equivalent to 126 soccer fields.


Hypnotic

Directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Who’s in it?

Ben Affleck, Alice Braga and JD Pardo.

What’s it about?

A detective investigates a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program.

Why watch it?

Robert Rodriguez wrote the initial screenplay for Hypnotic back in 2002, calling it one of his favourite stories.


No Hard Feelings

Directed by Gene Stupnitsky.

Who’s in it?

Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Morales

What’s it about?

Lawrence's character portrays the "ne'er-do-well" who answers a Craigslist ad that was placed to hire a date for an introverted and socially awkward teen boy, by his mother and father, who also just so happens to be preparing for college soon.

Why watch it?

Jennifer Lawrence described her experience working alongside Andrew Barth Feldman as akin to working with Christian Bale, due to their improvisational abilities.


HOUSE SAMYAN

Asteroid City

Directed by Wes Anderson.

Who’s in it?

Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Hanks.

What’s it about?

The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer convention is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Why watch it?

Wes Anderson's first film to not feature Bill Murray since Bottle Rocket (1996), his directorial debut.
