Kirk Cousins’s 2023 NFL season came to an abrupt end during the Minnesota Vikings’ Week 8 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field when he tore his Achilles.
The 35-year-old QB, who might be on the move this offseason, hopped off the field that day thinking he had just hurt his ankle. Instead, it was much more serious than that.
This new mic’d-up video shared by the Vikings shows Cousins talking to the medical staff on the sideline moments after he suffered the injury. He was talking through how he thought it was sprained pretty badly, but the team doctor immediately knew it was the Achilles, which is heartbreaking to watch.
That part starts at the 2:45 mark of this video:
The #Vikings were on a run and starting to play their best football of the season heading into Green Bay Week 8.

MY
QUARTERBACK https://t.co/zuFdlOajAG
How about the final 15 seconds of this clip? Just tore his Achilles, hopping away to the blue tent, and has words of encouragement for his backup to go win the game. Consummate teammate and leader. https://t.co/bKENzc7RrR
