New Mexico’s governor is exploring legal action to seek billions of dollars in damages after reports that DEA agents allowed fentanyl shipments to enter communities while building larger criminal cases. The strategy has sparked outrage as the state continues to face one of the nation’s worst overdose crises.
Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said she plans to take the issue to the White House and Congress, demanding assurances that the DEA has ended the tactic and is not using it elsewhere. “This is a stunning failure by the federal government,” she said, calling the situation “disgusting and despicable.”
