New McDonald’s coming to Merseyside with up to 65 jobs promised

McDonald’s is opening a new restaurant in Wirral, in a multi-million pound investment set to bring new jobs to the borough.

Plans for the restaurant, at Junction One Retail Park in Bidston Moss, have been approved by Wirral Council, meaning the fast food chain is free to begin construction work. McDonald’s says up to 65 new, local jobs will be created as part of its plans.

According to the planning statement attached to McDonald’s application, the new restaurant will have space for 97 customers to eat their meals inside and 17 car parking spaces will be provided for those wanting to drive to the restaurant. For those wanting to walk or cycle, access points for so-called ‘active travel’ have been included in the design.

Speaking after the plans were submitted to Wirral Council last December, Adam Brand, senior acquisitions surveyor at McDonald’s, said: “This site represents a multi-million pound investment in Bidston Moss and will deliver up to 65 new, local jobs.

“We know how well-connected this location is, being just off Junction 1 of the M53, and our restaurant will be ideally placed to serve local people and visitors alike. We are confident this detailed proposal will provide added competition and choice for customers whilst being mindful and considerate of our neighbours and residents in Bidston Moss.”

The planning statement also noted how much the fast food chain contributes to the local economy. The statement read: "In 2017, McDonald’s supported 681 jobs in Wirral; 577 in their restaurants and 104 in the supply chain and in the wider economy.

“The latest figures available show that McDonald’s contributed £9.74m to the economy in Wirral.” Looking at possible problems the new restaurant may create in the local area, Mr Brand added: “As part of our plans, we will submit detailed traffic impact assessments to account for the effects the development may have on local highways.

“Our operational plans will also explain how we will manage litter around the site, ensuring that we are a considerate neighbour.”
