New luxury cruise ship makes its maiden appearance in Liverpool

A luxury cruise ship is making its first visit to the Liverpool Pier Head terminal today (Saturday).

Silver Moon is operated by Silversea Cruises and will be stopping over in Liverpool as part of its Southampton – Reykjavik voyage. The operator boasts a "personalised service" and a crew-to-guest ratio of almost 1:1 on its cruises. This includes butler service in all suite categories, and Silversea's hallmark "small-ship intimacy." On board are eight restaurants.

The ship set sail from Southampton on the evening of Wednesday (May 18), and called at Falmouth and Fishguard before its arrival in Liverpool. It departs at 10pm tonight (Saturday) for Dublin (Dun Loaghaire), and will then proceed to Belfast, Oban, and Stornoway, before making its way to Iceland. After a number of stopovers there, the ship is due to arrive in Reykjavik, where the voyage terminates, on Monday, May 30.

At 40,700 gross tons and with a maximum capacity of 596 guests, the Silver Moon is the newest ship in the Silversea fleet. A naming ceremony took place in Athens in July of last year.

At the launch, Roberto Martinoli, president and CEO of Silversea Cruises, said: "This is an extraordinary milestone in the history of our cruise line. We today christened Silver Moon as the ninth ship in our fleet, marking an evolution in 21st-century luxury travel."

The launch of Silver Moon also marked the debut of Silversea's revolutionary new culinary programme, Sea and Land Taste or SALT. Three new onboard venues form a hub of culinary discovery for guests - the SALT Kitchen, Lab, and Bar. Guests are invited to delve deeper into each region's cuisine and culture with regionally-inspired dishes, drinks, and demonstrations. Special shore excursions also enable travellers to experience the food and drink cultures of each destination first-hand.
