Two Leeds education bosses have slammed one of government's Levelling Up plans as "scandalous waste of public money" which will do nothing to help young people "level up" or to tackle the North's worrying skills gaps.
New "elite sixth forms” are among the proposals in Michael Gove's Levelling Up White Paper to raise attainment in the North and Midlands, to ensure talented children from disadvantaged backgrounds "have access to the highest standard of education this country offers".
