Migrants convicted of sex offences may be prevented from claiming asylum in Britain as part of new laws aimed at tightening border security and bringing down the number of people living in hotels.
The Home Office said for the first time any conviction that qualifies a foreign national for the sex offenders register will lead to them being denied refugee status in the UK.
