An interactive map of 13 locations across the length and breadth of Scotland which have influenced the BBC has been unveiled.
In a collaboration between the BBC and Historic Environment Scotland, the two organisations have selected the buildings, landscapes, and places that have defined the broadcaster's 100-year history.
From Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, famous for its role as the setting for Balamory, to Glasgow's Buchanan Street 'Tardis,' dozens of Scottish areas have left their mark on television.
The map considers four key themes: The programmes that bring us together, iconic broadcasting buildings, innovative technology, and the people behind the places.
The Lodberrie in Shetland, once a trading outpost for merchants, also features and is now known as the home of Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez from the hit BBC drama 'Shetland'.
Head of Designations at Historic Environment Scotland, Dara Parsons, said: “Scotland’s iconic built heritage has played a strong starring role in some of the BBC’s best-loved programmes, and we are pleased to have been able to work with our counterparts across the UK to shine a spotlight on some of these special buildings and places throughout this project.”
Robert Seatter, the BBC's History Lead, said: “In our centenary year, we are delighted to be working with national historic partners to explore the BBC’s presence right across the UK.
“Along with popular TV locations, we showcase our BBC buildings and engineering centres that have become landmarks on and off screen, entering directly into the nation’s living rooms and connecting with the wider world.”
Beyond our screens features places like the home of Logie Baird, the Helensburgh inventor, and television pioneer, and the first-ever official radio and broadcasting houses in Glasgow.
Glasgow's first broadcasting house was in operation from 1935 to 2007 while 5SC, the nation's first radio station, launched in 1923 on Bath Street.
The interactive map can be found on the Story maps website and features the UK places that have shaped the BBC and television on and off-screen.
